Liberal Party members to meet over Mantach affair before state conference

Tasmanian Liberal Party members have been invited to a meeting with the party's senior executive in the wake of the Damien Mantach affair.
Mr Mantach was forced to resign as the party's state director in 2008 after using a party credit card for $48,000 worth of personal spending.
He repaid the money, but is now being investigated for allegedly stealing from the party's Victorian branch.
Some Tasmanian Liberal Party members have expressed anger that they were not told about the reasons for Mr Mantach's departure until recently.
In Parliament last week, Labor put the Premier Will Hodgman under pressure over what he knew of the matter given he was, and is, a member of the party's executive.
Mr Hodgman maintains he was told the money had been repaid and the issue was one for the administrative arm of the party.
Opposition Leader Bryan Green has asked Tasmania Police to investigate the circumstances surrounding Mr Mantach's resignation.
The Liberal Party will hold its state conference in Hobart at the weekend, but delegates have been invited to a closed corporate governance meeting on Friday.
Police Minister Rene Hidding said he believed the weekend conference would focus on policy, not the internal Mantach matter.
"But it's a state council for all sorts of matters, including organisational matters and if anybody wants to raise it there, I'm sure they'd be welcome to," he said.
