Queensland planning laws: Government opens consultation for draft legislation

Deputy Premier Jackie Trad has promised to work with the Opposition to take politics out of Queensland's planning laws, but has also accused the LNP of failing to plan for infrastructure.
Ms Trad has released draft legislation to streamline the planning process, retaining some of the previous government's initiatives, such as the State Referral and Assessment Agency.
"We are in this together regardless of our political affiliations," she said.
"I've made it clear that I want to work with the LNP ... on this issue and I've indicated my willingness to build on the work the previous government did in this space.
"I want to depoliticise planning, reduce the conflict, and ensure that reform endures."
However, Ms Trad said it was preposterous to suggest the Palaszczuk Government was "paralysed" in its own planning for major state projects.
"The last government in three years developed not one infrastructure plan for this state," she said.
"We are suffering because of the former LNP government.
"We'll be releasing a draft infrastructure plan at the end of this year to be finalised at the beginning of next year."
She also rejected accusations Queensland was not taking full advantage of federal funding for infrastructure.
While money from the Commonwealth's asset recycling scheme was not available because Queensland would not be privatising assets, Ms Trad said other federal funding would be sought.
"There is an annual process of providing project submissions to Infrastructure Australia - we are finalising our submission this month," she said.
The planning law amendments will be open for consultation until October 23.
